Being back in the States is kind of bizarre. It is not like the cultural differences are intense, but back where they say p(ah)sta, use paper bills for $1, and measure in miles rather than kilometres is just different. It is not even like I am back home, rather it feels as though I am on vacation to some other part of the world (which technically, I am). I guess I am just adapting very quickly.
Anyways... I returned to the States for one thing : Thanksgiving!
Note: American readers, Canadian Thanksgiving is in place of Columbus Day. Also, to people from other countries, Thanksgiving is a holiday with noble intentions that degenerates to a day of gluttony and celebrating the start of the end of North America's aboriginal population.
I decided to something I have been meaning to do for ages now, visit everyone at Gonzaga University. Kirby has been particularly pushy on her urging me to visit her so that she could get a massage. So, I pushed for it, bought my tickets, and prepared for a three-day adventure. Mind you, the transport here (bus and train) is really slow, meaning that I essentially waste* 24 hours in travel time, to and from.*waste in every sense of the word because I need to read all of Plato's Republic by Monday (of which I have read most of the first two 'books').
I arrived around midnight to a screaming Mariah and Kirby in Spokane. Since then, I have been chatting with them, giving Kirby a massage, talking to and meeting new people, giving Kirby a massage, looking at campus, wandering around, and giving Kirby a massage. Kirby missed my massages.
There really is not that much to say. I will say this, though : I am glad I went to a secular school, I am glad to be in Canada, I am glad my friends are relatively close, and I am glad that I chose UBC.I do not mean that Gonzaga is a bad school, quite conversely, it is really good and great for some people, but I am not one of them.
Thank you Kirby and Mariah for being such great friends, and thank you Molly and Brigid for being cool cousins.
